Episode 125 – Which One Goes?

The Ganza crew play a game of choices, where they collectively vote a favorite franchise out of existence. It may start off easily enough, but Tom quickly ups the ante as the game goes on. Gungans or Ewoks? Nintendo or Sega? Alien or Predator? Kirk or Picard? Who will survive Which One Goes?

They're using... lasers?

Birthright #1

"Birthright

As his happy little family spends the day preparing for a surprise birthday party, young Mikey chases a baseball into the forest during a game of catch. When he never comes back out, accusations fly and the family is torn apart. His mom can’t deal with the thought that his dad had something to do with it, his dad can’t deal with being a suspect, and his big brother can’t deal with unsympathetic friends. It appears all hope is lost, until a year passes and a mysterious stranger is found roaming the area where Mikey went missing…

The CBLDF Presents Liberty Annual 2014

The CBLDF Presents Liberty Annual 2014

The Liberty Annual is a collection of stories about the importance of protecting our First Amendment rights, by a collection of different writers and artists throughout the comic book industry. Sure, it’s going to raise some money for the organization, which provides legal referrals, representation, and advice to further those goals, but it’s also about the IDEA of freedom and hatefulness of censorship. It is a book with a message, but the message is of value to every ideology and fandom. It is a core tenant of artistic expression, and these stories tell that story in such an insightful and subtle (sometimes) way that it is certain to make you think about why you do read comics and why you should read comics.

The Lil' Depressed Boy: Supposed to be There, Too #1

I’ve never read Li’l Depressed Boy before, so this was a pleasant surprise to me. The art is on the simple side, but to great effect, and the story is complicated and believably and completely relateable. This is one of the best new-to-me books I’ve read and I’m depressed that I’ve been missing out all this time. At least trade paperbacks are cheaper than having bought all those individual issues.

Low #2

Low #2

Low #2 continues the story of a cop trying to escape his painful reality, torn between the drugs and sex that help him cope with impending doom, and a desire to help hold the world together while it dies around him. It’s sad and lonely and really conveys a sense of hopelessness, even while promising that hope is out there.

Hellraiser Bestiary #1

Hellraiser Bestiary #1

Just in case you don’t know what to expect from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, it’s gory and violent and there are no happy endings, unless you consider seeing a hellish demon enjoying the work of tormenting and dismembering his victims so much he smiles a happy ending. The Bestiary is no different, so it may not be for everyone. But, if you are a fan of the dark world Barker has created and nurtured for more than 20 years, you’ll love this. It’s exactly what you’ve come to love, just more of it.
